DROPOUT HIGH IN WAYANADU DISTRICT.

A news was reported in the Deepika news paper on 04/01/2010 it was about a report published by the state planning board. it was about a statistics showing the dropout of school children in wayanadu district, in Kerala.

In Kerala, the more ST population is lives in Wayanadu. In the district Human Development Report prepared by the UNDP and State Planning Board, it is found that, the number of school dropout is very high in Wayanadu. Among the children, the SC and St students are mainly dropouts. The percentage of drpoouts inWayanadu is higher than the state percentage.

In the state level the dropout in lower primery level is 10,476; in Wayanadu alone it is more than 999. in the UP level the number of dropout is more than 735. in the HS level, it is more than 906(that is 2.56- but in the state level it is only 1.38). In 2008, the dropout in the High school level was more than 427.

SITUTAIONAL ANALYSIS
  • THE CONSTITUTAION OF INDIA GUARANTEES THAT, EVERY STUDENTS HAS THE RIGHT TO GET COMPULSARY AND FREE EDUCATION, BUT THE RIGHT OF CHILDREN ARE DENIED.

  • WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE REASON BEHIND THE DROPOUT AND IMPLEMENT WELFARE MEASSURES TO PROTECT THE RIGHT OF THE CHILDREN TO GET ADEQUATE EDUCATION.

  • FROM THE REPORT IT IS CLEAR THAT THE DROPOUT OF CHILDREN IS VERY HIGH IN SC AND ST STUDENTS. THE GOVERNMENT HAS SEVERAL WELFARE MEASSURES, BUT THE STATISTICS SHOWS THAT, THEY ARE NOT GETTING THE ACTUAL BENEFITS OF THOSE PROVISIONS.

ROLE OF SOCIAL WORKER

  • FIND OUT THE REASON BEHIND THE DROPOUT

  • ENCOURAGE MID DAY MEAL PROGRAMME

  • PROVIDE TECHNICAL AS WELL AS VOCATIONAL TRAINING
    John Dewey:
The aim of education is to enable individuals to continue their education ... (and) the object and reward of learning is continued capacity for growth. Now this idea cannot be applied to all the members of a society except where intercourse of man with man is mutual, and except where there is adequate provision for the reconstruction of social habits and institutions by means of wide stimulation arising from equitably distributed interests. And this means a democratic society.
